ABOUT US
Who are we?
Hello and welcome to a friendly and diverse group of photographers. Originally started in 2018 by a few like-minded souls on Facebook, the club/group has continued to grow and consists of: enthusiastic amateurs, photographic teachers, commercial and retired photographers, artists, and those who just like to use their phone cameras. Whether you are a complete beginner, or more experienced photographer our group will be of interest to you.
We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the Portway Annexe in Wells, from 9.00am until 12.00pm. Each meeting has a theme, and there will be a presentation followed by a discussion. We also vote to decide the winning shot in our competitive banner competition which is open to all members. As well as the serious stuff there is plenty of banter, informal chat and a generous supply of tea, coffee and biscuits.
You can be part of these interesting and informative meetings for an annual membership fee of £40, which also covers access to guest speakers and some special events as and when they happen, details of which will be posted on our members only Facebook page.
We hope you decide to join us on your photographic journey and look forward to meeting you in the near future. If you would like to join our group please go to the Facebook link below, just answer a few simple questions and you are in!
Regards

I am a self-taught photographer, who has been snapping away for quite a long time, and a member of Focus on Photography since 2019. My areas of interest are monochrome, infra-red, still life and analogue photography. I was inspired to try infra-red by the analogue infra-red images of Simon Marsden. I also have a fully equipped darkroom, and have learned to develop my own films, along with a small home studio where I practice my still life photography. As an admin I look out for any local exhibitions which may be of interest to members.

I am a retired engineer that has always had a passion for photography. My preferred genre is outdoor imaging of any type whether it be sports, wildlife, landscape etc. I am happy to have a go at anything though. I follow quite a few landscape photographers on YouTube, my favourite being Nigel Danson. I have been known to enter competitions, part of my role as Admin is to share competition information with the group.

I discovered the magic of photography in my school’s darkroom at an early age. The thrill of developing my own pictures, the quirky equipment and smell of the chemicals was totally addictive and that addiction has lasted for many years since, although I’m now a mirrorless digital camera convert. I enjoy all genres, especially Astrophotography and Lifestyle and I’m particularly fond of moody monochrome. As an Admin, I try my best to keep the others on the straight and narrow – not always successfully!

He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy! A quote that has followed me all my life - a life filled with adventure, challenges and experiences that have all contributed to my passion for photography in one way or the other. Buy me a pint and I'll tell you more!
